"Good learners, like everyone else, are living, squirming, questioning, perceiving, fearing, loving, and languaging nervous systems, but they are good learners precisely because they believe and do certain things that less effective learners do not believe and do." -Postman and Weingartner (31)
I am grateful to Utah State UP and to my department and college for support for the publication of The Talk and Texts of Teacher Development: Values, the Practicum, and Programmatic Change in Writing Studies, which was released in January 2026.
The book outlines my engagement in what I call a responsive institutional ethnographic inquiry into the implicit and tacit values driving teacher development in my home program, the ways that other WPAs and practicum instructors describe their driving values for teacher development, and the importance of engaging with graduate students in this values-oriented work.
